Default White chalky build-up

I was wondering if any of you are finding a white chalky build-up around bottom of batteries on aluminum frame. I have a 1996 Club Car (2006 rebuild) that I rinse out occasionally. Water levels good, runs fine. Ideas?

Welcome to BGW!

It's called corrosion, and Club Cars are certainly NOT IMMUNE from it, it just takes longer. When you do your rinsing get it all wet, stop, and sprinkle the whole battery bay with some baking soda. Let it sit like that for 10 minutes, THEN rinse it all away. This will help neutralize any buildup and slow the process down.

Thx for the reply. It didn't seem that simple. I was thinking maybe there should be something between the batteries and the frame, like pads or such. Would that even help? This is my 1st club car (electric) and I wasn't sure. There just seems to be a lot of this corrosion. Sometimes I can break it off in chunks!

Make sure you're only filling your batteries after a charge cycle. Also only to the indicator that is in the battery cells. If you overfill them, the electrolyte will spill out and cause the condition you describe. It will also damage the batteries over time, as it dilutes the electrolyte!

Gornoman is correct but Baking soda is chemically "sodium bi-carbonate" which is a mild akali (opposide of acid)

where as arm and hammer Washing soda (without detergent) ( laundry isle )
is chemically "sodium carbonate" a slight stronger version of an akali and will do a much better job . either one will not hurt your skin

as a side note the swimming pool companies buy sodium carbinate lite in 100lb drums and repackage in small bags under the name "ph raiser" or "ph -plus"
used to reduce pool acid levels and raise akalinity.

Let me get this right, I need a 100 LB drum of Sodium Carbonate, a swimming pool, mix well and dunk a Club Car in it. I'll stick with a Yamaha, EZGO, a Coke, and a can of gas.

Clean the battery tray area really well and spray it with the rattle can bed liner, that stuff is hard as nails.
