Default G9 Rear end vent tube

Got a buddy that has a G9 and its leaking gear oil out of the vent tube. Hasn't added any fluid.... Why would it be leaking? Thanks for any help. Sorry if I already posted this, but I couldn't find it if I did.

If you lift a cart or climb steep hills they will do that, let it come out it will stop after a bit when the level goes down a little bit.

...or if you run it into a creek and the diff fills up with water, the oil floats on top, closer to the vent tube.

Mine was leaking around the big end, i replaced it with a new one, went to change the oil in the rear end 2 weeks later, and when I went to remove the plug to pour in the new oil, the hose broke off the breather. Was it old or are they that fragile? It was genuine Yamaha part.

The vent tube needs to be mounted so the tube forms an arch. If the tube points straight down it will leak.
