Shocks on lifted ezgo
So I got the cart already lifted. I'm not exactly sure what was done to it. I know it has Jakes spindles that look to be about 6 inches of lift. There may be more under there I just haven't noticed yet.
I was looking at the rear thinking of ways to lift it more then I noticed the shocks were fully extended due to the lift. The front seems to be fine, but when I hit bumps the back feels like it has no travel. I can jump on the back and it moves down but locked going up. Are there any longer shocks that I can put on there so smooth out the ride? I was thinking maybe shocks from a small car or something. Has anyone else had this problem? And what was your solution? |

Pull one of the shocks off and measure the body length extended and collapsed. Not including the mounting stems. Maybe post a picture of the rear suspension too.

Re: Shocks on lifted ezgo
I crawled under there today and here is what I found. The shocks aren't locked up or the wrong size. I unbolted them and there is no movement up and down.
I'm stumped because the leafs appear to be stock. I don't see why there is no movement. The rear lift consists of axle standoffs about four inches worth, and possibly longer shackles. I don't see the factory leafs being that stiff. Any ideas? |

Pictures worth a thousand words.
I did a bit of research, and I'm thinking they might be the heavy duty springs. Now I'm trying to figure out how to soften the ride without loosing height. |

Those are definitely HD springs. No wonder you don't have any movement. You would need a bunch of weight to move those bad boys. You could try Dual Action springs. They kind of give you the ride of stock springs with say two passengers and when more weight is added the helper spring takes the extra load like HD springs.

Anyone have pictures of stock leafs?
I'm thinking of shortening the two in the middle so just the top is being used. Over the smallest bump I dang near hit the roof. I don't want to loose any height, but also don't need much travel. Just a little give for the bumps. |

Re: Shocks on lifted ezgo
If you shorten the lower leaves it will over stress the top leaf. Leaf spring's leaves need to be a matched set with the proper thickness, quantity, and length. Swap in some stock springs. If your height lowers too much use spacers between the spring and axle seat to raise it back up.

Re: Shocks on lifted ezgo
I know what you mean Rooster. IF my calculations are correct I can shorten the third leaf from the top 1/2 inch on both sides and get closer to the desired spring rate. I'm not too concerned with over stressing a leaf. My main concern is stressing the carts frame with them being too stiff.
