Default Solar charger

I stopped by a shop today that was building a cart, they put a solar panel on the roof to keep the 12V accessory Bat charged, he said he could add more panels to work on the 36V pack.
Never thought of this, anybody tried it and what was your results?
He added some kind of power block for the panels, sounded good.

I asked that same question a while ago but no-one thought it would work too well. It may be ok just for the 12V accessory battery but not for the full pack.

There are plenty of (high priced) commercial solar roofs but I haven't heard from anyone that has one to know how well they work.

The other thing to consider is that if you want it for the whole pack, a single solar panel puts out too little voltage and needs an expensive charge controller to convert it. It's better to run 3 panels in series (each 12V) to get your 36V.

Here's the original discussion from my question:

It will extend your drive time a little. But it will never fully charge your battery pack. You will still need to charge your batteries with the cart charger

The amperage and voltage needed to charge your batteries is in concept possible from solar panels, but how MANY solar panels are needed to fully charge and you’re only going to charge it while it’s in the sun should that be your sole charging source.
For extending your range, good idea. For charging from 0 to full, bad.

I have solar on my aux battery. No issues charging a 12v 7ah battery with a 1.5a solar panel. It powers two LED lights for no more than 30 mins at a time. Battery and solar panel came off an old deer feeder.
