Default 48v to 64v

Running a DS fully upgraded. fSIP controller, RS II, h/d switch. I'd like to add 2 batteries. I think everything I have down to my converter can handle up to 72v. Has this been done? I have 2 month old batteries now. I don't think the charger will work anymore?

Are you sure your solenoid and controller are rated 72v ? If not this could be a very expensive experiment

I've built several 72 volt cars. Some on DS platforms, some on Precedent platforms. It's really the same basic concept as building a 48 volt cart. You just need to make sure you have the components that can handle it. The charger will have to be replaced with a 72 volt model. DPI makes a great 72 volt charger. Let me know what components are involved and I'll give you my suggestions on what you need to do to make it work. 72 volt cars are awesome if they're built right. That's why we're here, to make sure it's done right.

Excuse me for asking what might be an obvious question but do you get 1/3 more speed or torque with 72v? Does a 48v motor live long at 72Vs? How does the 120 pounds extra weight "weigh in"?

It totally depends on the components used.

Ive done the convert from 48 to 64, plus higher.

Its a straight forward upgrade. I agree with just using 72 volt parts, easy to find. I had a 72 volt charger converted to charge a 64 volt pack.

Stock motor will be ok to 168 volts, at which point it blows itself apart. 96 and 120 volt carts are very very fun.

The only part I don't know about is the Scottyb heavy duty f/r contractor. I'm sure there will be no problem. I run the f/r rocker switch through my D.C./D.C. Converter.

Help me out here. I have your contractor and solonoid, the biggest you offer. The solonoid I'm unclear weather it can handle additional voltage. Seems they are very specific!

You will have to replace the solenoid. They are voltage and amperage specific. You will need a 72v (And I assume you will want a 400A, but they make 200A also)

Here is a generic style and an Albright - Not telling you to buy these, just showing them to you.

Wouldn't it be better to go to 72V with Lithium batteries? Then you're getting the advantages of the extra voltage without the drawbacks of the extra weight.
