Question 1999 Club Car DS 48v so slow!

Hi everyone, I have a 1999 Club Car DS, 48 V.

It has 6 2015 8v Trojan batteries, which load test great and charge just fine.

The problem is the cart is slow and weak, even in the road. It goes Max 12MPH.

In comparison, my 1988 Resistor DS is at least 5 MPH faster than it.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I thought that being a 48v cart it would be faster and stronger...

12/14 mph is pretty much it for a stock cart

Yes, as Swan stated you have a controller cart and its speed code is probably at #3 for golf course use. You will need to get the speed code #4 installed in your cart unless you are planning to do controller upgrades in the near future.

This is done by going to any cart dealer or shop, they take your serial # and for $80-$100 they get the code from Club Car and use a hand-held programmer to install it and then place a little sticker on your cart to show it exceeds the normal use designation.

I don't think the 1999 cart had speed codes. If it is a regen cart FNR toggle switch not a lever. You may have a dynamic brake solenoid failing. If so the coil on that solenoid is carrying the high amp load the solenoid should be carrying. The coil will get real hot and the cart will not have much power.

There should be no code speed setting on that cart.

I have the same cart, mine is a series cart, pretty much 12mph is all I can get, even after upgrading my stock controller to 400amp, brand new batteries, 2ga cables, and HD solenoid, works fine for me because mine is a woods cart, I've got plenty of torque, even with 22in tires, I assume if I wanted more speed I have to upgrade the motor, but its not a concern for me.

Thanks everyone!

Itís a lever to control the speed, not a push button. Probably a series. It slows down in grass and goes about 12MPH on the street. I guess thatís all I should expect? Iíll stick with my 36 V resistor :)

I only hear one solenoid click. Should I get one or two on this cart?
