Default Club car light kit problem

Hello Group

Just install my golf car light kit with headlight and tail light. My golf cart has 4 batteries of 12v. I follow the instructions and connected the fuse wire to battery #4 and to the center blue wire and it works when I was testing.

After testing, When I was putting everything together I made a mistake and connected the fuse wire to battery #1 which I think has all the power (48v).

Now, nothing is working and I am back to zero. Does anyone know what happened and how to fix? I don't know if fuse is burn or If I burn all bulbs (front and tail). I hope is nothing serious.

Thank you all in advance.

Check your fuse. I would guess you blew the fuse perhaps.

Check and replace the fuse first. You may get lucky here but more than likely your 12 volt light bulbs died a bright and fiery death... Least they went out quickly!

I don't know how to tell if the fuse is bad.. Its just a small black box. I opened the box and its just a silver metal inside....

The fuse will be "blown" and will have the metal in the middle split in two. Google blow fuse and do image search. Easy to identify.

You might have fried your bulbs though too.

you are right....I think everything is fried. I removed the headlight and open to see.

I am posting some pictures so you can have a better idea. Is the fuse not suppose to protect the circuit?

these are leds bulbs...the resistors are fried...is this replaceable? Is it worth to buy a new led headlight or better to buy the regular headlight..

sorry to keep bothering you guys..

Thanks again for your help.

First, fuses only protect wires from catching fire, they act too slow to protect any electronic circuit.

Second, what fried is the voltage regulator on the LED board (U1), not feasible to try to locate the part and replace it.

As commented by Sergio a fuses main purpose is to prevent the wiring downstream from the power source from getting hot enough to catch fire in the event of a short circuit. You sent 4 times the required voltage into the devise, this was not a short circuit so the fuse while it wished it could help it was unable to....

if it was halogen bulbs it would burn just the bulbs, Am I correct?

The problem is I have LED board fried as Sergio said and is not easy to find and I have to buy a new headlight. If thats true I will buy halogen headlight this time because if happens again I just have to replace bulbs...hope i am right.

Thank you All !

Now that you know it is very unlikely to happen again. It's a rookie mistake. Live and learn. I personally like the LED's because they draw less voltage usually. Just my opinion.
