Default 88 Marathon won't start

Ok guys here is the problem I am having. My wife was driving around our yard on fire ant duty . I heard a pop from the cart and it stopped running . I checked the gas tank and it was empty . I filled it up and cranked and cranked still no start . I pulled the spark plug and changed it thinking it went bad . While I was at it checked the spark , no problem there lots of spark , also good compression . Next I checked the carb took it off and went through the whole thing , took the manifold off and looked at the reeds and they were moving as the engine turned over. Put it all back together and still no start. Tried ether in the carb and still nothing. Please don't tell me it blew out the crank seals . I rebuilt the hole cart about a year ago and it has run great with no problems . Any help would be greatly appreciated I am about to pull the little hair I have left out . Don

Find tdc and put some soap stone in an area so you can use a timing light.
Crank it and see if the spark is constant at the same marks.

Pull the air cleaner and crank it and place your hand over the carb. Do you have suction?

Pull the fuel line and see if when cranking you have fuel coming out in pressure.
May have blown the fuel pump diaphragm.

Next and last and i doubt it, take starting fluid or some flammable aerosol and have a buddy crank it over.
Spray the stuff at each crank seal with a long hose and see if it pops to life. If it does bad seals.

Thanks my1423 , I will get on that tomorrow . I have a feeling that the seals blew when the engine popped , sounded like an internal explosion . Don

I also believe the seal popped.

Remove the fuel pump, and feel how much pressure is coming out of the hole while turning it over.

Thanks everybody , after all the checks I pulled the flywheel and guess what . There it was the seal blown completely out of it's seat . While I am waiting for parts I going to make a retainer plate to go behind the ignition pickup bracket to hold the seal in place . Next time it blows I will be able to see it better on the clutch side . Don

Mine popped out once once before I put the spring on my throttle cable.

I reinstalled with green Loctite, and staked around it in 3 places with a hammer, and center punch.
