Battery terminal broke
As I am sure that this has been covered at least once before, I need some advice. I have read here before someone talking about having to tap a terminal due to it breaking off. I tried to find it before making a new thread but could not. My E-Z go was not running at full speed so I checked to make sure all the battery cables were secure. I tried to tighten one of them and the whole post came off. I need step by step on tapping it please.

Re: Battery terminal broke
I appreciate it. I believe that this is the one I saw before. My only question now is, what exactly does it mean by "tap it again until it bottoms out". Do I just turn the tap until it won't go any more?

You drill a hole No More then 3/4" down. Tap the hole lightly/easily until you create a few threads. Remove the tap, clean out the hole then re-tap once again the same way as before, until you hit the bottom. Last edited by scubabud; 06-20-2009 at 02:01 PM.. Reason: Left out part of a sentence. |

Tap a few threads at a time and blow the shavings out. Keep tapping until you reach bottom. Some hardware stores carry those 5/16-18 allen studs. Tighten the stud and your done. I always use a stainless washer uner my terminal ends so the corrosion is reduced to a minimum. This is probly the best "fix". " This was from Roady a while back on adding a stud to a battery. |

Re: Battery terminal broke
I used this link to fix my battery. It's helpful if you have a drill press to drill the hole. Had about $7.00 in the fix, including the bit, tap, and stud. Works great!
