Default Aftermarket DC Inverter

I know there are some electrical people on here so I will try my best to explain. If I forget or miss something please ask. I have a 2009 RXV that I converted to 6 8 volt batteries. I hooked up an inverter to get 12 volts. For the switch source on the inverter I did not want to mess with wiring harness so I ran a seperate switch to dash panel. I was hoping to hook the switch source to the 1st battery running 8 volts so no problem. Problem was inverter would not switch on. Tried to 2nd battery now 16 volts. Got more output on inverter but no where near 12 volts. Tried 3rd battery for switch source now 24 volts and inverter works great along with all accessories. Voltmeter says got just over 12 volts output. Problem is I was planning on running low voltage thru aftermarket switch and now I am up to 24 volts. I know I am in for electrical issues if I try to run 24 volts thru a 12 volt switch. Any recommendations on how to get around this problem. I know I could hook the switch straight to battery but I want a switch to control battery draw.

If your 48V to 12V DC to DC converter has a remote on/off wire, it is rated for and should be connected to the same voltage as the converter input is connected to, so I'm not sure why you are tapping into the battery pack for a different voltage to turn it on and off with.

Finding a switch to handle 48 volts can be difficult or am I wrong.

They are available, but the amp rating is the key factor.

The voltage rating is a voltage at which the contacts are not supposed to arc-over while opening with the amp flow at the rated value.

I usually use switches with 120VAC ratings and de-rate their Amp rating by about 90%.
IE: A 120VAC/10A switch is good in a 1A DC circuit whose operating voltage is below 120VDC.

For switches with low voltage DC ratings, don't exceed the power (Volt times Amps)
IE: 12VDC/10A rated switch, don't go over 2.5A at 48V. (I'd stay lower than that)

If you are just using the switch to toggle the remote on/off function of the voltage reducer, the 12V rated switch will most likely handle the low amperage 48V without any problems.
