Default 72 volts

I have an 03 48v ds series cart. Its time to replace my batteries and was thinking of going to 72 volts. Will the stock motor handle the over voltage. I understand about charging, controller, etc. Just need advice on motor.
TIA.

There's one sure-fire way to find out.

That's a bit extreme for the stock motor.

I know I read at least two threads here about 72 volts or more on stock motors. I have two 72 volt carts but non stock motors.

What I was told by a motor builder was the stock brushes don't like the extra voltage, it not that it won't work it just might not work for long.

I will be trying a stock 36 volt motor on 72 volts at some point in the future.

Sounds like motor won't last at 72v. I think I'll stay at 48v and let Plum Quick work their magic on motor.
Thx for replies.

Going 72v is much more expensive then just batteries. A 72v controller is more expensive and so are chargers.

I've done a few 72v conversion and my first one I left the stock 36v motor. It lasted just fine in my riding (flat ground), just kept an eye on motor temps. A 48v motor should take the 72v even better and should last a while unless abused.
