96 Club Car runs at half power
I have a 96 club car 48 volt Serial Number A9636-523714. Just put new batteries in it and it ran great for 2 days. It stopped working and I found the cable from one of the solenoids to the coils was broken along with two of the wires that go to the controller had been pulled out. I fixed the wires but now the cart only runs at half speed in both forward and reverse. I checked voltage to the motor and it is running around 26 volts at full throttle. Any ideas?

Re: 96 Club Car runs at half power
welcome to BGW, load test the batteries and make sure the reagan solenoid isn,t acting up.....the cable that went to the reagan coil was it burnt or what? and that 26 volts to the motor something isn,t right the cart shouldn,t run it all with that voltage...............how did this problem start?......................

Re: 96 Club Car runs at half power
The batteries check out fine. The wire to the solenoid was broke not burnt. This cart has 2 solenoids and they apear to be working. It just seems like the controller box is only sending half power to the motor if that is possible?

Re: 96 Club Car runs at half power
anything is possible with these things but the reagan soleniod is sorta like a jake brake it only activates when needed so if its engaging when it shouldn,t its gonna play with speed of cart......i take it the cart has a pot? not a V-glide............the reagan resistor coil can you tell if that thing is getting hot really fast......if you can drive the cart for 100 feet and get off see if coil is glowing red..................................

Yep, it gets hot really fast. Is there a good way to test it or just replace it and see what happens?

Re: 96 Club Car runs at half power
Bypass the dynamic braking solenoid (The one with the coil) It's stuck closed. Cut both small wires and tape them up out of the way.... Omit white wire that runs from solenoid to A2 on motor..... Hook the other white wire to the A2 on motor where the other was removed. Your end result will be a white wire running directly from the controller to the A2 on motor.... The dynamic braking system is crap, that's why they eliminated it in 2000. You'll be much happier without it.

Re: 96 Club Car runs at half power
No. That will just disable motor braking. When you remove the solenoid you still keep the braking feature
