Default Help for non-mechanics - digital charge meter

We'll see how my analog state of charge acts with new batteries. It doesn't seem very accurate or reliable.
The ambulance just came and picked up my cart to give it new life. (new batts).
But I would much prefer a digital one meter. We live out in the country and have to pay for pick up and delivery. It will be about $30-40 round trip. I really don't want to wait another week or 2 to get this cart back, in order for the guy to order the part and put it in.
So.....here's my question: We can't (I don't think) cut the hole for a new digital meter, but could we pull out the analog and just change the wires and just tape the digital to the "dashboard"?
I know this sounds stupid to all you who are able to do it right, but I don't want to pay another delivery charge on top of having the meter installed.
What do you think?
Thanks!

Installing the meter is cake. Why can you not do it?

I'm assuming we'd have to take the dashboard plastic thing off and cut the correct sized hole. Not sure we have the right tool for that. Not even sure we know how to get the round meter out. Why do you think its so easy? It might be one of those cases where experts think something is easy, but its hard for the lay person?? I'd love to be able to do it myself though!

did ya check carts unlimited he has dash plates already cut with a meter installed all you would have to do is drill out the rivets on your dash plate pop the wires off your old one put em on your new one and pop the new dashplate in place with either screws or new rivets

Silverstreak is correct. Too often the expert in any field thinks everybody should be able to do what they do.My computer tech, my AC tech, my appliance tech, and my landscaper are guilty of the same view.

Good for you to be able to recognize your limitations, I'm sure your expertise in your chosen field is beyond any of us mechanical types

Perhaps there is a local handy man who could install the gauge with my instructions?

What about the hole for the light switch?
Hmmm.....this might be easier than I thought! Would the exact same wires for my analog work in a digital?

Yes, the analog meter and the digital meter use the same 2 wires. You need to be cognizant of polarity. both meters are marked with the typical + & - . The good thing here is that the digital meter is 100% reverse polarity protected.... so if you do reverse the wires it just does not work & no harm is done.

In this case you could just leave the old meter in so you wouldn't have an ugly hole in the dash. Do you have a picture of the dash showing the key switch area and the location of your analog meter?

Another thought is this. I can ship the meter direct to your dealer. Delivery in 2-3 days?
