94 electric Club Car acceleration problems

I am having a problem with our Cart. It is a 1994 Club Cart electric 36v. It is all stock afaik. The cart was going very slow but was not losing charge. Batteries were replaced and we were still having the same problem. We took the controller off just to take a look at it and grab some model numbers off it to price it. Now that we have put back on the same controller the cart has only one speed and that is very fast. It does not gradually build up speed, it just jerks into top speed in both forward and reverse. The speed pedal still has power when the key is in the off position. The cart was working fine until it started going slow.
Any help will be appreciated.


EDIT: I just noticed one of the tiny switches attached to the forward and reverse lever was bad and not clicking. I think the wiring diagram says this is the "limit switch" I am trying to get a new one now. I was wondering if this could cause my problem?
