Default S4: Elite Lithium X.0 vs 72v

Looking at a new cart, and a little confused by all the concerned threads re range and speed. We probably only go 15mi or so on flat land between charges, and 20mph is fine.
Any recommendations whether to go 2.0 or 3.0 or 4.0 (knowing it’s $1000 for each step up)?
And am I just as well served going 72v lead-acid and saving the $$ ?

(And if this isn’t heresy here, we also have looked at Onward, but just about as confusing, and haven’t found comparison thread(s) here yet)

A Lithium battery needs no maintenance and maintains full power until fully discharged. From what you are describing, 2.0 should serve you just fine.

The lithium packs used for the formally 72V carts leaves much to be desired! Avoid the factory lithium packs on those carts if you intend to have a trouble free life of using them. Right from the factory, they are compromised by the lower pack voltage. The motor must be provided more current in order to retain rotor lock at the reduced operating voltage. If you expect it to perform the same, long term, as the 72V lead/acid packs, it will not. It would be far better to upgrade a 72V lead/acid cart to aftermarket lithium at a later date than to waste money on the factory lithium packs on an L6. The S4 Elites now being offered are nothing more than a cosmetically altered RXV Elite, so you might as well just buy an RXV Elite!

Bob, does that mean the 2020 RXV I have is actually using 72V motor?

I believe all the elite (lithium) models are 56v. RXV, express, or valor.

Also pretty sure the motor that's used in 48v lead acid RXVs is the same as in the lithium 56v RXVs.

The earlier Elite versions of the L6 and S4 used the 72V motor and the 80V controller. The newest L6 and S4s are now using a 235 Amp RXV controller and an RXV 3.3KW motor like those used in the RXV. They did this to make the cart better suited for using the 51.1V nominal lithium pack. They are still cheating the customers on the new L6 Elites, as the RXV controller and motor do not have the power to drive those heavier carts up the hills at full speed. The newer S4s are really RXVs with some cosmetic changes and rear brakes added. No motor brakes on either the S4 or L6. No Rabbit/Turtle switch on the ones with the RXV controller. If someone wants one of those, just buy an RXV Elite and save some money!
