Back from the shop cleaning everything up and machining what i needed to do. Here is some golf car porn for the motor heads.
1)Turned the flywheel down. Porcellato claims it cuts about 2.7lbs off the flywheel. I didn't do a before and after so not sure. Either way it will get this 400 spun up faster.
2)Cut the flywheel key in order to advance the timing.
3)You can't see it but i also had to polish the crank journal where the outer balance shaft arm rides. The old one was wasted and scarred the crank a bit. That is the new one already on the cam gear pressed back on.
4)Cut .020 off the head which will raise my compression a bit. Cleaned up the valves, replaced the seals and lapped them while they were out. Didn't do any porting and polishing though. The head is already opened up nicely and I believe it will flow just fine up to 4000rpm.
5)Now she is cleaned up and ready to go back together.

Looks great. I’m curious as to the performance difference between the 350 and the 400!

I sure wish I was going to be able to tell you but I'll let you know what i think going from a 290 to a 400. From the 290 to the 350 its a 5mm larger bore and a 5mm longer stoke. That is just nice gain all the way around. When you go from the 350 to the 400 you are increasing the bore 5mm and the stroke only 2.5mm. That leads me to believe that it won't be a bunch more torque but just a increase in hp. I believe that would make it a bit better to rev....but being a FE motor I'm keeping the stock rev limiter in it! Hopefully it gets to that 3600rpm quicker though.

The 400 has a larger carburetor 18mm vs. 20mm and the exhaust is opened up a bit more. Hopefully this transitions into making a bit more power.

All together. On the bench waiting for the exhaust to come in. It's been back ordered at club car for a while.

The 400cc Precedent is a success. She runs great and has plenty of get up and go. There is a noticeable difference in torque. Just initially pulling out of the garage i could feel it took less to get it moving. I know its no big block but for what it is its a nice upgrade. I notice now it feels like i really have the RPM's spun up. I would imagine that is because it can spin them up no problem unlike the 290 that took a while to get there. Could some 8:1 gears be in the future? That is a possibility but I don't want to negate my new found torque.
