I did it on the cheap the first go, used a Performance 670 intake and a used Yamaha Grizzly 660 atv carb. It actually ran very well but the carb was just too large or jetted to fat, it was a 42mm Mikuni CV, it's in my thread, I bumped it for you. A Mikuni slide carb can be had for less than $150, if you get the VM style I can get you pretty close on the jetting if you use a 34mm. The throttle cable will need some work, I had to make a bell crank device to equal out the pedal travel issue to match the carb, pretty simple actually.

I only have experience with the CV and the VM style Mikuni carbs. Yes that 670 intake is what you need.

Another option I tried and liked was using a tapered adaptor to allow you to use your stock clutch on a straight shaft. see below or type in Ebay "Briggs clutch adaptor"
They have them for 1" and 3/4" shafts.

Thanks for the idea crash but my problem is the shaft is a 1-1/8” I would like to get a 1” shaft or I’ll have to find a machinist to cut it to size

If you are still looking, call Jim at BeltPalace. He has been extremely helpful for all things clutch and belt for me and a buddy who uses him all the time.
