Default Back at fighting the electrical ghost

A few months ago I purchased a 91 ezgo non running marathon. Within a few hours I had it running under its own power but only short term. Thanks to Cartmaster and JPonLKN I was able to get it to fly down the road (no rev limiter).
Once again short lived. So I took a break from it to concentrate on a couple of other hobby projects on the back burners. So now I’m back at it. Fixed the fuel issue I was having with the stuck fuel float by replacing carb with a rebuilt one, a new coil pack and igniter. So here’s my next issue, I’m getting spark but it’s very weak. My compression is excellent, battery is fully charged. Any suggestions on a weak yellow spark? I installed a new timing belt and lash all the valves to .004. I’m running a ground wire from the battery to the plate where everything is mounted to see if that will help.

Thanks in advance to any and all help,
Matt

How good is your engine ground? Should be a ground strap going right to the engine.

What kind of spark plug? You said you replaced the coil, is it oem or aftermarket? Do you still have the original oem one?

All oem, new set of NGK’s, seems the old spitfires work better. I’m in the process of checking and cleaning/replacing grounds. The spark is getting better as I go

So after chasing grounds everything seems to be good except for starter switch. It sparks as soon as I apply pressure to the gas pedal but quits sparking almost instantaneously. If I feather the pedal off and on I can get a continuous spark but I know that isn’t right.

Any thoughts?

The cheap China ignitors will do this also.
