I was looking at the batteries today and noticed a black box located on the front of battery compartment beside the forward and reverse switch it looks to be about 4" wide 6 or 7" long it looks reminds me of a small amp for a radio, is this another controller or something

hay Tahoe Dawg, haven't been on in a while, anyway, question would it be best to get controller first or bigger motor, I'm not worried about speed, really want torque,

Controller for sure. The bigger motor isn't going to perform correctly if you try to run it with the factory controller. The factory motor however, would perform fine with the new controller. Be aware that a solenoid upgrade (with diode) and a heavy duty cable set needs to be done with the controller upgrade as well.
