Default Belt size

I have a gas G16 with jakes 7 inch lift ,10 inch wheels, 22 inch tires. The belt is new but it seems to jump a bit and seems to be just alittle to loose also both drive and driven clutches are new. So my question is since i have all this done dose it change what the belt size should be?

Measure belt width, it should be 1 1/8" across. Less than 1 1/16" it should be replaced I believe.
I went with a Plowmans belt,(stock size) as it is suppose to be stronger than stock Yamaha, and kept old one as a back-up. Check motor mounts are not broken, also if your car has torque cable, it needs to be working and adjusted properly.
Also you did grease new clutches with a squirt of grease in each clutch right?
good luck Mike

thanks for the reply, yes both clutches have been greased i dont think i have a cable not sure but it is a 1999. The driven clutch has had some work done it has a spring and a machined face. How do you tell if the engine mounts are good or not? I have also noticed a loss of climbing power like its not getting into the low side all the way and the rollers and ramps are all new in the drive.

Boltz,
I'm giving you incorrect info.
Belt new is 1 3/16" across. And you replace at one inch!
I just looked at the parts reference, and I don't believe yours has a tensioner.
Have you tried putting it in neutral with the seat off and watching the clutches articulate when you rev up the engine?
Big guys should be by shortly to help

Strange that these two threads were together on today's post listing. Got me to thinking about a diet.

Now, back to the topic.

A new belt will be sticky and takes some dust/time to wear in. It may act strange and drag at idle for a little bit. However it should be pretty normal at half throttle and over say, under a power load. If the engine is too close to trans the belt will engage half way up the clutch and you lose low gear. If its too far away the belt will drag at idle badly and you might not get all the way to top gear. You can also mark the inside of the clutches with a marker center to outer edge; run it for a while to top speed and back down and belt will wear the marker off where it runs. If it does not get to the top or bottom of one clutch you can see it. Note where it goes in neutral may not be where it goes in use. You can also take the rear body off and watch it or at least the secondary. Belt should be at top of secondary at rest, and get to top of primary at top speed.

When I tighten my cable it takes off harder from a stop, I mean if I am on a hill or pulling a trailer it will rev more. With no load not much difference. If I tighten it too far I lose top speed (hand held gps). So I loosen it until I get my top speed back and it works best there all the way around. If I go up a steep slow hill it will rev higher than it does on flat ground and it does not want to do that if the cable is loose allowing the engine to be closer to the trans.

I should note that putting a spring in the secondary changes things some say they lose top speed. It should have more grunt for hills and such and more low speed power. It may rev more at lower speeds and will shift differently. On the other hand a little rpm will keep the engine cooler.
