lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
guys,
I lifted my '06 48v cc iq ds yesterday. 6" allsports supersport lift....now I have alot of free play in the brake pedal before the brakes actually work. I didn't change anything that i know of with the brakes....so is there something I need to tighten or adjust? i may be reposting, please let me know if this is already covered in another thread thanks |

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
CC has typically had an adjustment hole on the backside just like a car....it is a star roller you turn it with a flat screwdriver. The hole may be covered with a rubber plug. Put it back when you are done. Do the adjustment on jack stands for safety and accuracy If the shoes are adjusted up then the play may be in the peddle linkage adjustments.....

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
on my 2006 cc I don't see a plug hole for adjustment anywhere - is this under the cart somewhere?
or......how do you adjust the pedal linkage? under my cart I have a big spring (from the pedal linkage) which is connected to a "L" shaped plate which has the two brake cables hooked into the plate. all of this linkage seems very loose - exactly how do I tighten all that up? |

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
If there is a brake adjustment hole it will be on the backing plate or in the barke drum I'm not familiar with your model...maybe some one who is can help.......

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
You must have pulled, stretched or pinched a cable. I would start by checking everything. All cables and all linkage, make sure you didn't accidentally damage something.

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
any idea what I should look for to be damaged? I can say that when I dropped the rear axle and motor assembly (which I did carefully) I did notice a good bit of tension on the brake cable on the driver's side.
But just by looking I can't see anything that looks damaged or stretched. The spring from the pedal linkage look fine, but where the cables connect to the "L" shaped plate (plate where the cables run the each side of the cart) it seems to be very loose. Maybe this should be tight ??? Can any of yall tell me how I can re-tighten this? I had the park brake "ON" when I did the install by the way. thanks golf cart gurus |

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
Try tightening the linkage where the cables come together.

Re: lifted my cart, now I have no brakes
I know this tread started a while ago, but I will help out if it has not been remedied yet. If you take the wheel off after properly supporting the cart you will see a large rubber cap on the back side of the backing plate located on the top side. Remove the cap and you will see a large nut with a stud and an 5/16 bolt head on it . You can adjust the rear shoes by rotating the stud. one way to tighten and the other to loosen. Make sure there is little drag on the shoes and you can still rotate the drum back and forth with very little resistance. if you over tighten them you will have a power loss and the shoes will swell from the heat and bind the brakes up.
