Default 2003 CC DS Key Switch

OK I am a little confused on the key switch on my DS. I am installing a voltage converter to convert the whole battery pack (48 volts) to 12 volts to supply accessories. The key switch is a simple 2 terminal switch which I assumed is a simple on-off switch.
It has 3 wires on terminal 1 it has a green wire that comes from the main solenoid and an orange/black wire going to the battery light. On terminal 2 it has a single blue wire going to the MCOR. Common since tells me the #1 terminal it the input and 2 id out but it has power through the switch all of the time/ What changes is the resistance when switched on. This cart was running fine and still runs so am I just stupid or is there something wrong? Help please.....

You cant connect anything to the key switch on electric carts. The switch only gets supply power from the controller, connecting anything else to the switch can toast your controller.

I've always just used a separate switch for the converter. I switch the 48v side so there is no parasitic draw.
There's probably a way to have the converter turn on/off with the key switch, but you can't hook directly to the switch.

How do the majority of you switch the converter on and off to avoid parasitic draw?
