Default Charger question

Hey all, I bought my dad a new cart and am now trying to fix his old one up to sell. I have a question about the charger and am hoping someone can help me out. The cart is a '73 ez-go and here is a pic of the charger. My question is, my dad said he would set the charger at like #5 if he played 9 holes, and at #10 if he played 18. My question is, now that I look at the charger, it says "automatic" and to just set it to "on" when you want to charge.

I am wondering if it really is an automatic charger, that you can just set it all the way to "on" and just walk away, no matter how long you used it? Or if it should be set to a time depending on how long it was used? Thanks,

Brew

It should shut off automatically. Check it and see. Plug it in to a freshly charged pack. It should shut off in an hour or less.

If it does not then I would suspect the timer board.

I'm no expert on that charger but it looks like if you set it to "on" it would charge batteries and cut off automatically. Or, if you set it to a number(hours) it will run for set time and then shut off.

That is what I was thinking too. When I asked my dad about it, he said he just always set it to a certain hour. He did say he brought it in once to get fixed to a cart dealer, and he asked them for how long he should set it, and they told him 1/2 hour for the number of holes he played. So 4.5 hours for a 9 hole round, 9 for an 18 etc. I am a little surprised that they wouldn't just tell him to turn it to "on" if it was automatic. That is why I was asking, I didn't want to burn the charger or batteries up.
