Default EZGO PDS new to me, PO fried the controller while charging

Just picked up a nice looking txt pds, not sure of the year, serial number tag in the dash is gone. PO put in new batteries a year ago and while charging fried the controller, sparks shooting out. Its an alltrax dcx500pds. I'm thinking they had something hooked up backwards.

My question is should I be worried about ordering my new controller from scotty and hooking everything up correctly and having the same thing happen again? Did not come with a charger, so I am thinking they just hooked up something backwards and if I make sure everything is hooked up right then I should not have to worry. Any help is much appreciated!

P.S. the alltrax xct 500 I got from scotty for my DCS cart is flat out the best controller ever, so fast and easy install.

I'm pretty sure the XCT Alltrax has polarity protection, but I'm not 100% sure. They have almost made them idiot proof. Just take your time and follow Scotty' s directions and you'll be fine.

Let me know if you can't see the pictures.

Motor tested correctly for continuity.

3 wire plug was not plugged in anywhere, haven't had a chance to investigate will do that tonight or tomorrow.

Fuse is on the charging cable, was not on the positive cable going to the controller.

Could either of these be why this controller fried?

I will check the wires from the motor, etc. tonight to see where they are plugged in on the controller to see if that could be the culprit as well.

Waiting on new battery tray, mine was completely rusted, I'm surprised the batteries didn't fall out while on the trailer!

Also I have to order a solenoid from Scotty, I didn't check the correct one that came with solenoid when I ordered my controller. Darnit! I was just too excited to get the controller I guess.

The 3 wire plug from the motor was not used with the old DCX model. The new XCT will use this connection to monitor motor speed. The pics show no red flags as to how the PO fried the control. I would just look everything over and fix any questionable wires or cables and go with it.

And shipping, thank you

PS I will not send the resistor and diode you do not need with this XCT controller.

I have all my parts in. Sick of drilling out rivets to get the body off but finally got it. Not much of anything but a little surface rust on the frame itself. Painted the new battery tray and set it in but haven't bolted it. Started on the install of the alltrax first.
