Default Club Car DS 36v Motor Upgrade

I just picked up my first 36v Club Car to recondition and I wanna upgrade the motor to a high speed motor. My cart has the 5 Speed Solenoid set up. My question is if I do this do I have to tear that out and upgrade to a modern day controller to upgrade the motor? Or can the Solenoids and Resistor handle it?

Thanks this is my first time with one of these. I've remodeled the EZGO TXT's before.

CTD pointed you in the right direction! Couldn't pm you but if I may be interested in the old motor when you upgraded?

Another option which I did is upgrade to 48volts, upgrade to controller and use the 36v motor you already have. Gets you some more speed and torque. I've been very happy with it. The 36v motor for series club cars is sought after because of this upgrade many guys do when they have 48 volt carts.
