Default Hot hot hot

Put the 36v cart away after a short drive, lifted the seat to charge Batteries, and smelled Electric heat.
Touched the wire between nbr 1 and 2 Batteries and burned my fingers. The neg post on nbr 1 was so hot I could not touch it.
Removed the wire and found a small amount of corrosion, not much, could not see it until I removed the wire from the Battery.
Is corrosion resistance the cause of this? Both batteries show 5.96v. All others
are 6.05 plus.
Nbr 1 is brand new, nbr 2 is 2 months old.
