Go fast on the cheap
Hi I picked up a 2008 PDS cart from a dealer ( Got burned I think) Anyway I wanted more speed from the stock PDS so I wanted to know in terms of MPH how much more speed I can get from a "Freedom Chip" or a 400 amp Alltrax controller or both? The cart is stock on 23" tiers. Kinda blew my budget so I'm looking for less expensive ways to get more speed. ANY info and help would be GRATEFULLY appreciated.
Thank You |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
1st: what do you consider cheep.
2nd: what is your budget for this speed upgrade. 3rd: just how fast do you want to attain? oh and btw......CONGRATS on the ride, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to BGW. There is a BIG fridge on the back porch with anything you can think of in it...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have. Make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom's, wive's, husbands, girlfirends and boyfriends here don't care....and take it easy. oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here. Welcome!! |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
Well 500.00 bucks or so for now is what I can spend.
I would be happy with 23-25 MPH for now until I can throw more money at it. Thanks |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
With the 23' tires you are ...(sooner or later}... going to toast the stock controller...I'd go for the Alltrax DCX 400 PDS controller.
Happy trails! |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
seeing as how you are running 23's......sooner or later your controller is going to bite it. you mentioned a 400 amp controller, which is the thing to do, what you also will need is a SD Solenoid as well. ALSO, what size cables do you have on your cart? are they stock? if so, you will need to upgrade those as well to at least 4 ga.
I would suggest you go to CartsUnlimited.net, with is ScottyB's site. on the speed controller package page, go down about half way, you will find the PDS controllers, Pkg. #808 which has both the controller and the solenoid you will need and will get you the speed you want and is for carts with up to 23" tires. here is a link directly to that page. http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Custom_Options.html NOW, if you have stock cables, you will need to upgrade those as well, and you can get the best set available right there at scottyb's as well. Here is a link directly to the page.....you would need Kit #10 http://www.cartsunlimited.net/Batter..._Upgrades.html |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
Interesting the dealer didn't mention that the tire setup would cook the controller go figure.
Thanks a lot for the guidance everyone. That's what I will do for now. |

Re: Go fast on the cheap
Pretty sure a lot of the dealers do that, here in Mn. Most lg dealers throw big tires, lift, cool paint job and nothing much else maybe new batts then sell for 5-6 grand....

Re: Go fast on the cheap
I see on ScottyB's site that there is only a difference of only about 30 bucks for the 2 gauge vs 4 gauge. Is there any advantage to having the 2 gauge?

Re: Go fast on the cheap
4g is fine if you are running the 400a controller on 36 or 48 volts. The 2g cable will delivery more amperage with less resistance. You may want this if you have big tires, 4 passengers, & hilly ground. You may need 2g if you run or plan to run a big aftermarket motor. Remember 36v system draw more amps than 48v systems. Hope this helps
