Default What Gauge Wire for main hot wire coming off battery

I have a 03 Pathway and I was cleaning all the battery connections and resoldering new ends where needed when I got to the last one which is the main hot wire going from battery to the solenoid bolted just below the OBC the soldered end was a little loose so I pulled it off, cut the wire back only to find more corrosion......so I kept cutting back and it looks like it runs through out the entire wire. So Im want to replace the whole wire but all I can find in the shop is some 8ga. power wire that I use to hook up Car stereo amps with, would it be heavy enough?

. . . do not use smaller gauge wire than what is being replaced . . .

Original was 6g. Most guys are going up to 4 and 2g depending upon their amperage delivery needs.

In a pinch run two 8ga wires together. It doesn't come out to exactly 4ga, but it will be better than your corroded one!
