Default Charging Batteries Daily?

Newbie to the cart world and I want to make sure not to ruin the Batteries.

The wife and Kids have been out on the cart Nightly for around 15-20 minutes Intervals.I've been putting it on the charger as soon as they pull back in and leaving it plugged in until the next evening. Is this to much charging on the battery?

Wink Re: Charging Batteries Daily?

If they are putting a good 15-30 minutes of run time on them no. You could charge it every other night also and be fine. It really depends on the batteries. Are they new or older ones. If they are new then I suggest running it for 30 minutes a night and charging them. if they are older batteries then go a day or two before charging them unless they want make it that long.

Use/Charging Chart from Trojan Battery Co. shows you can do for just so long. ... about 15 years or 5500 cycles which ever comes first. Keep an eye on the water levels!

Thanks Andy& Scott

They are 2010 Batteries so I could go every other night and be fine right?

Also this is a 36 v Series cart, what would I need to do to first or in order to increase the speed?

Thanks in advance.

Lightbulb Re: Charging Batteries Daily?

If they are new batteries I would go about every other day depending on the driving it see's. If you charge it up fully and don't ride it for several days don't worry about them. If you drive it over 30 minutes a day then charge it up. When I say 30 minutes I mean it's moving the whole time. Putting a battery meter is the best way to keep up with it though!

The easiest way to gain speed is to spend money. As in any thing it's about how fast do you want to go and do really want to spend the money on it to gain that speed!

On a series cart you should upsize the controller, solenoid,& cables. Beef up the F&R and now you are able to deliver more amperage to the motor (how much depends upon the age & condition of the batteries). All the above is necessary before any real increase in performance. Once you do that you are ready for any single or combination of speed increase upgrades. Some upgrade options are:
Speed motor
Gear change
Taller tires
Voltage increase

Hope this helps.

That's an interesting chart Scottyb and I've seen you post it before....

My question would be how does one know, from run time alone, or how would one estimate, the percentage of discharge? How would one know if they're at or near 50% capacity for arguments sake?

Just curious.....

Sorry for all the questions, but would rather know form the one's know than assume and screw something up with out asking first.

Getting ready to Install Voltage meter for the pack, at what point is to low/voltage to get the charger not to charge the pack
