Brake light switch smoking

Hello all,
I am new here and attempting to install a RecPro precedent deluxe light kit which includes the wiring harness. I also installed the 16 to 12v reducer direct fit into the bucket harness. All seems to be installed correctly but the timer relay smokes when I press the brakes. I am getting too much juice I know I just don't know how to fix it. Lights also seem to be getting too much juice and I had the reducer replaced once already thinking it may have been bad but it just doesn't seem to be working.
The harness from the brake area is plugged into the negative source behind battery 4 and positive to the blue wire at battery 1. Should this be changed around?

Six eight volt batteries.

I also have a 48 to 12 volt reducer I can install and remove the 16 to 12 v but would not know where to splice that in. Any help is appreciated!

I don't know much about 16 to12 reducers, but it sounds like you're using 4 batteries (32 volts) to feed said reducer. Try using only batteries 1 and 2.

IF the brakes are wired separately, you need to run them to the reducer, not the batteries.

The instructions say to attach the wires coming from the brake to the negative and the blue wire which is attached to battery 1. The only battery that does not make it smoke is 6. And now I have burnt a hole in the thing. Most all of it is connected via the bucket harness except for the harness wires coming from the brakes area so cannot be directly connected to the reducer.

Tried that and still too much juice.

I'm not familiar with that brand of harness but do you have a red wire with fuse that changes to blue for + and a black with yellow bullet connector for -? Do you have any other wires coming to the batteries from the lights?

Can you get a voltage reading at the reducer output?

Yes on the pos and neg wires.
Unable to get any readings. Need a new meter.
The reducer is plugged in between the light harness and the original harness. Maybe I need to use the 48 to 12 instead. I can wire that in but have four wires instead of two. Two in for 48 and two out for 12. The 16 to 12 only has two wires.

Something is wrong with that reducer. It has the 16V input but where is the output pair? EDIT I see it's the factory one. Not the aftermarket version.
