New Batteries Installed Today
I finally bit the bullet and installed new Trojan 875's today. I got what I felt was a great deal from a wholesaler we buy Delco from. They delivered them to the store and I now have them in and on the first charge. Awfully nice to see the Feb 2014 date code on them. Now to break them in right.

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
Congratulations. New batteries are a big but good investment.
I don't have a lot of time left on mine so it won't be long for me. |

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
Well. Got the first charge all done. Took the cart out before leaving for work. Drove it a little over 3 miles and still at 50.6 volts. I had to leave for work, so I will do some more riding this afternoon to get down to a 70% SOC. Just a quick question. Do I need to actually run the cart or can I just leave the lights on to use up battery power? If I can leave the lights and stereo to drain to 70%, that would be easier for me.

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
jneubig,
I don't know if I would go out of my way to drain the batts? Isn't that just making the batts not last as long? I would just use normal and beakin properly. Any thoughts on this? Steve |

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
Would it be a problem to just charge it after your initial 3 miles, in other words sooner than 70%? Or is it necessary to drain them down that much before recharging?

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
I can charge them anytime. I was going by the notes found here with regards to breaking batteries in. If I read correctly in the above link (post #3 by SUNOCO), it was saying a best practice was to go down to roughly 70-75% SOC then a full charge cycle for the first 10-20 cycles. If this is wrong, please let me know. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want them to live long and prosper.lol

Re: New Batteries Installed Today
Dont take the bats charge too low, use them normally and put on charger after each use, pretty simple really. There is no need to take them down to any certain level prior to charging, just stick on charger after use.
