Default 01 gas TXT losing power

Howdy folks, I introduced my self in the new member forum so I get right to the chase. I just bought a 01 gas TXT off craigslist. (I know buyer beware)The guy told me he rebuilt the motor top and lower end. He said he put a 350 head on the 295 motor. I haven't been able to search that upgrade anywhere. The cart started running strong but has slowly been getting worse. So far, checked valves one of the middle 2 was tight but not far off, compression shows 170 in each cylinder, pulled the plugs twice both times very sooty. The only adjustment I can see on the carb is on top and the screw is tight against the carb. Where do i start to troubleshoot this.
Thanks

350 head on a 295 will decrease compression. most put a 295 head on a 350 block.

sounds like you need to remove the carb and give it a good cleaning.

also what plugs are in it?

How do I tell what head is on it? The cart ran great when I got it. Then it seemed to lose power as you drove it. Let it sit for a while and it was OK. I replaced the fuel pump thinking it wasn't getting gas. Plugs are NGK BPR4ES

Cleaned the carb and replaced the plugs and it ran great, but the more I drove it the more it seemed to be losing power again. Checked the new plugs and they were getting dark already. If this cart does have 350 heads on a 295 motor did they use the same carb. I seem to be running rich.

I have buuilt 2 motors with 350 blocks and 295 heads and use the 350 carb. I have not had an issues running it that way. Now i have read on here that some have had jetting issues running these enge this way. I guess it all depends on where you live.

AS far as heads go, I am unfamiliar on how to tell. Maybe someone on here will chime in on the diff.

I have a car with this symptom as well. Let me know if you find anything out.

When my car had the 350 I had the same symptoms, turned out the the coil was getting hot and intermittently dropping one cylinder, the plugs were sooty like yours. New coil solved my problem. Somewhere at the bottom of the block it will tell you what bottom end you have.
