Default 48 volt EZGO State of Charge Meter ?

Is it normal for my 48 volt state of charge meter to turn off (not light up) when the cart is in reverse? If I press the gas pedal the light turns on as normal.

There's no pic. Is this a new install? It sounds like the ignition sensee is hooked up on the wrong pole of the ignition.

One other odd thing is that I'm getting about 30 volts when I use multimeter with one end attached to the cable coming from the solenoid and the other on the - battery.
