Connecting the brown wire to the fuse panel didn't power the rear taillights. Any ideas?

I figured this out. I cut the blue + and black - off of the harness behind the dash. I hooked the - to the aux battery ground and the + to the fuse panel. The front lights worked perfectly. The wires cut at the wiring harness needs power to the rear taillights. Once I reconnected those wires to the aux 12v + and - it worked again. Thanks Sergio for letting me see the light!

Does this relay need a diode wired in between the switch terminals?

It is always a good idea and mandatory if the relay is being activated by an electronic device instead of a switch.

Here is a better diagram for connecting a relay to the key switch, the right side can be power for the converter (as shown) or switching the +12v from an auxiliary battery.
