Re: Steering Rattle
Hahaha...well aside from that. Like what is the fluid? Are they adjustable? Should I live with the rattle. Haha...

Re: Steering Rattle
Did you ever figure out where the rattle was coming from. I have the same sound, and I beleive it is coming from the slack in the u-joint under the front of the cart. I can put my hand on the u-joint, reach up and turn the wheel back and forth, and the sound is from the slack in the joint. It may be the lift on my cart that made it weak. That's probably what Mike was talking about, I think I'll try the foam. I believe you have to replace the 'Intermediate Steering Column' instead of just the u-joint. Let me know if you got it stopped.

Re: Steering Rattle
I haven't torn into it yet, but I did track it down. It's not the u-joint, but close. That's got no play in it at all. The shaft going into the rack seems to have some up and down play in it. I'm guessing a bearing or bushing in the rack and pinion? I don't know what a rebuild costs for it. Haven't been able to track it down really. I'm going to pull it here soon as it warms up some and see if I can turn down a new bushing or whatever is wrong in there. The gears don't seem to have any play in them. It's odd for sure.

Re: Steering Rattle
Hahah...oh...dang it. Where's the mailing address 412drvier? LOL.
I was sure it was a bushing. I still think it is...just not the one that I thought. I can't find a break down for the steering rack, so I'm not sure what alls in there exactly. We'll see. Too cold to mess with it right now, plus I just bought a 40'+ Toy Hauler I gotta get ready to go get. |
