Default Slow electric Club Car

Hello,
I just bought a 2003 electric Club Car ( SN: AQ0307-254762) that goes slow (less than 10 mph). According to the previous owner, the batteries are relatively new (used no more than 10 times on the golf course). The cart doesn't move until the accelerator is pressed almost ¾ of the way down. It definitely has 6V batteries in it. Maybe a dumb question but any chance that the batteries should be 8V? Or a motor controller issue?
