Default Comet 780 with Wide Belt and STOCK Secondary

Easy stock secondary clutch mod to run the wider 1 3/16" belt required for the Comet 780 primary clutch.

I don't think you even need to take the secondary clutch off to do this.

1. Get a pack of the washers pictured (Tractor Supply).
2. Remove the large checknut (reverse thread) holding the outboard pulley sheave
3. Remove the outer pulley sheave (reverse thread again).
4. Put 3 of the washers on the shaft.
5. Put the pulley sheave and checknut back on tightly.

I used a thin o-ring to make sure the first washer stayed centered, but not sure it's necessary. This saved me $250 by allowing me to keep my stock secondary clutch.
Rollin' 22MPH (GPS) all day with no mods to the GX390 (yet), 22" tires

Thanks! I have ZERO experience with golf carts or CVT style clutches and a low budget. Beat my head against a wall for a while looking for a cheap solution.

Sometimes it pays off to just take something apart and see what makes it tick. As soon as I got that pulley sheave off the light bulb lit up and I was burnin' rubber toward the hardware store with a bee in my bonnet!

I have a Club Car DS big block muffler solution in work now...details coming soon....
