Default Reverse/Forward gear on carryall?

I have a Carryall II (1999) that I just put a Lifan 420 in. As expected, the reverse is fast and the forward is slow and loud, due to the switched rotation. My question is, can the gears simply be switched? If the high speed 8:1 gear works on the reverse gear, would that imply that the forward and reverse gears are the same, and could be switched to make the speed proper again? Thanks!

Luke

To answer your question, yes you can, The stock gear ratio for you club car is like 12:1 for foward gear, and 16:1 for reverse. Dont ask me what the new ratio becomes,(texasboy not to good at math)

"Texas Math" 6:1' + after market engine = Really Fast.......lmao...

I have the the 6:1's in my Club Car, and there AWSOME!!!

So I can disassemble and switch it without purchasing anything? I’m not too good with gas rear ends (yet...) This is a Carryall so I don’t really need fast. Just reliable. Haha.

Thanks!

Right now with the clone engine installed, you are at 16:1 in foward gear.(when you installed the Clone Engine, your shifter lever got reversed, reverse is now and Forward, and foward is now reverse)
To achieve what you are wanting, you must buy a replacement set of gears, either 6:1 or 8:1 ratio, with new gears in hand, you can now crack open the rear differential, the Kawasaki rear differentials are pretty straightforward and not that hard to do, you will need to have a press to remove a bearing to the pinion gear, once you remove that bearing you simply replace it on the new pinion gear that you received with your new set of gears. The pressed on bearing is the hardest part, but easily taking off with a press. Once you get the axle out of the golf cart, and take off the axle tubes, that leaves you with just the case, from that point it is about a 30-minute job, not hard at all.

the bottom line is, to achieve the goal you are trying to reach oh, you will need to purchase set of gears.

I hope this information helps you get to where you want to go, good luck

Can you verify the gear ratios for the Carry All? My Yamaha G11 Yamahauler utility cart has a 15:1 forward gear, instead of the normal 12:1 because it's made for hauling.

IF its like the CC trans I worked on you have a box with F and R off the secondary CVT and then it goes through reduction gears to the diff and axles. The reduction gears are the ones you change to alter gear ratio. The shifting gears are not even in there and are not changed. I have never heard of anyone doing anything with them. Most carts are 12-13 forward ratio and that is changed to 8 with HS gears, 6:1 are made for some of them. So for 8 that is like 33% change, so I would guess your 16 would be around 11:1 or close.

I did an 8:1 gear set yesterday. Made it a good bit faster in forward. Obviously reverse still has the advantage, which is a shame, but I’m happier with it now. Now waiting for the correct belt.
