Default Need rebuild advice

I believe that Izzy is in need of a rebuild. I am pretty sure the rear main seal has gone but she has been low on power for a while and it's time.

She is a 1986 Marathon and has a Robin motor, I can't remember if it's a 2PG or 3PG but I "think" everything is original.

Any advice anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

1. Any idea on rough cost?
2. Any pointers on prep work I can do?
3. Any pointers on what type of mechanic to look for?
4. Any basic do's or don't's?

It looks like I am going to do this myself with the help of friend who is a good small engine repair guy.

Where is the best place to get the rings and seals and whatever else we might need?

For parts, try one of our sponsors. On something like that, I'd be hesitant to buy cheap chinese parts on ebay, but that is an option. No aftermarket parts will be as good as factory, but factory might not be available for that.

Before you go for a rebuild, you need to determine compression.

We don't know what the issue is, so you should describe it.

You could have a seal issue, or a fuel issue. It could be low compression. It could also be a clutch, or fuel pump. It could even be a clogged muffler.

Jumping into a rebuild is premature.

Here is a top end kit. You would still need crankshaft seals, and three main bearings.

Compression only tells part of the story. A leakdown test is also needed.
