Re: How to build a $650 killer 460
Thank you for the insight raydhd it is much appreciated sir.
I have moved my build forward some. I got cart #3 in house and scored a new in the box Jake's 3" spindle lift for $80. Cart 3 is a 2004 electric TXT. Gutted all the electric drive components and installed my gas axle using the lift kit. I am ready to make an engine decision and move forward fabricating a cradle. I am with you on that hot rodder mentality... why not just build it up right from the get go and do the porting, roller rockers, and adjustable main jet like you describe in the beginning of this thread. I like the idea of a throttle limiting governor. This may be the best of both worlds as far as being able to limit top end while easily being able to remove the limits and have the 460 run out ungoverned. I am thinking with a tach I could dial in a top end rpm with a throttle limit. Does that seem like a reasonable conclusion to you guys? While I have no prior experience with small engines the assembly seems to be pretty straight forward. I've got a torque wrench and can follow directions no sweat. I have full confidence I could assemble the DIY kit without more than a question or two. Enjoying this post sir ! The raydhd edition 460 has a nice ring to it. |

They have updated the DIY manual which is pretty helpful.

Re: How to build a $650 killer 460
I seen that a little while back. If you have some mechanical skills it is not that difficult. Really there is not all that many parts in the engine.Remember Vegascarts was born because a group of drag racers wanted some better to use at the drag strip. Also note ARC,Bullfrog,NR and others machine parts for these engines that are raced all over the world every weekend.A whole lot of hot rodders here. My only BIG caution is MAKE SURE your fuel system is up to the job.

Re: How to build a $650 killer 460
At no point did I say polish. I did say port both ports and unshroud both valves and open both valve pockets. Didn't even get into raising the exhaust port roof. For all the best tips on these operations for the clones look at both ARC's and Paul's carts on youtube videos. The key to getting more power out of the clones is AIR FLOW,AIR FLOW AIR FLOW.

I corrected your quote. Performance wise there is no benefit smoothing the intake side.

Moreover inexperienced persons may slip with the rotary tool and damage the valve seat.
Extreme caution needed. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |

If anything is done to the intake side it should be stippling.

Re: How to build a $650 killer 460
Just saying when a maximum airflow to intake tube is reached all the "cleanup" archives no more benefit to the air/fuel mix.
Stippiling makes that maximum airflow keep the fuel in suspension (mist) longer than straight airflow. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |

Re: How to build a $650 killer 460
There is an old saying. Carbs are for lawnmowers, fuel injection is for racing.
My father learned in the early 1960's how to make the best out of carb setups. He was a shop foreman of an engine rebuild and repair shop. He passed some of his secrets on. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk |
