Default about mufflers g16

first, was wondering, my 97 g16 as the original muffler it has never been off, there are no leeks but will they plug, and should i check it? also, would just a lawn mower muffler be to loud, seems simple just to weld one on?? and what would that sound like?? i would like a little richer sound. and lastly, am i better off just leaving the 2 pipe head bolts alone, for fear of breaking one?

These mufflers are not known to plug (i have never changed one for plugging). The nivel replacement with the lip around the top is a little more free-flowing, and sounds cooler. The air duct system around the muffler is important to keep the heat build-up under the seat reasonable, if you change to a lawn mower muffler, you may end up with melting plastic stuff under the seat. The 2 bolts are usually pretty good about coming off.

One way to be sure is to soak them down a day before with liquid wrench or your favorite penetrating oil.Never had any trouble with any exhaust manifold by doing this. Can't say about a g16 but the plowman's exhaust on my g14 was a nice improvement in sound and power.
