Can you advance timing on a g16? Is there a noticeable difference?

Is 1/8" to much or not much at all? Not sure on the G16.

The G1 is the only one that can be adjusted that way. All others require a offset key for the flywheel. I know this sounds like a lot of work, but i would do "baby steps", too much advance can make starting difficult, way too much can damage the motor.

The one I did (G1) I advanced the thing far as I could, which is moving the plate not that far as it hits things. I think I even filed on something to get a little more. After that it was a little sluggish in reverse but it went better in forward. Also had the head cut on it can only cut so far or you mess up the chamber. Did some other things but all stock and it would go over 30 on stock tires. Of course at the time it was only 4 yr old lol. IIRC they are 6:1 compression stock. That is the G1 I jumped another G1 with off a little 2' high ramp. Wish I still had it lol.

Thanks, Sho That is what I was looking for. I milled the head .035" and did a lot of port work to the head. Also bored it 1mm, next will be looking for a bigger carb.
Thanks,
Mike

I raised the exhaust port a little like 0.5-1mm and that was all. Worked on the clutch some too. However I started with the fastest out of 60 G1s so I had an advantage. It had stock carb and exhaust. The fun days, I used to drive it a couple miles to lunch sometimes right down the road. IIRC it was around .030 you could mill, then you need to work the cylinder. A hot trick on old yami sleds was to use double gaskets under the cylinder and cut the top or head to get the comp back up, that moves all the ports up.
