Default Stereo power from battery pack????

Hey all u electric gurus..... Is it possible for me to run my hot and ground off my battery pack at the 12 volt point? I've heard of course not to ground to frame and I was having my power flow to the FR switch even when the key is off. I can't find any room for an additional battery and have no idea what to do????

Wink Re: Stereo power from battery pack????

Yes u can do it. The biggest problem u will encounter is distortion when riding because of the controller. U may also loose the power to the radio when u first hit the gas because it will suck the juice to the controller. U can install a diode for that though.
The distortion is almost impossible to get rid of though in a lot of cases, that's why most use a seperate 12 volt or a reducer.
If u use 2 of the 6 volts make sure u keep a eye on the charge of those to with the rest of them.

A reducer is better if u plan to use the pack to keep the batteries equal. But it's not going to help the distortion.

Doing it that way you will have to be vary vigilant to keep your whole bank equalized. Just because you rob a volt or 2 off one or two batteries the carts charger will not lift the low batteries up to equal the others. You can switch which one or 2 batteries you tap off of but that is a pain, still you can do it. It's just a lot easier and better piece of mind to get a reducer.
