Gear/Differential maintenance Club Car DS?
Was wondering what kind of maintenance the gear box requires on a Club Car DS electric. I noticed while working on the motor that there is an opening on the top of the "box". I mean there is a screw with what appears to be a vent cap. I assume this is for some type of oil or grease. Anyone know about this? The cart is a '96. It appears that taking part the rear axle would not be too fun since I don't really have a shop or anything, just a cluttered garage.
Thanks, Doug |

The vent cap is just that, to vent the differential. You do not add 30W oil to the differential via the vent cap. There are two bolts on the driver's side, the upper for filling and the lower for draining.

Re: Gear/Differential maintenance Club Car DS?
You didnt say how long you have owned it? You should check oil level once a year at least and add 30 weight motor oil as needed ( NOT INTO VENT HOLE LIKE 111R SAID ) as this will ruin motor. I change the oil in my 1996 CC every 2 years and check drainings for metal flacks that mean wear is happening. Worth the 22 oz of motor oil for safety sake.
NOTE I use a pump type flex spout oil can to fill mine, some others use marine drive fill pumps to do same job as funnels loose more oil than gets inside drive? |

Re: Gear/Differential maintenance Club Car DS?
I use Royal Purple synthetic 30w in mine. Do not use a 5w-30 or 10w-30. As the additive package wears, the oil will become thinner and not reach 30 weight.
Use a straight 30 weight oil. |
