Default enclosing battery compartment

I wanting to enclose the battery compartment on a 94 marathon to completely waterproof and mud proof the area under the seat any ideas on how I should go about this??? Thought about welding up a 1/8 sheet of metal under the battery compartment frame but pain in the butt getting a good ground connection even after grounding

Sure it's possible, but why? Seems you would want to be able to keep things clean and cool. Building a bathtub for the batteries to sit in my be more trouble that it worth?

its an electric . took all the batteries out . the angle iron that makes up the structure had few rough spots so I was going to weld few spots and that is when I was not getting a good grounding connection for the welder. The reason for the compartment is to keep things dry and clean not full of mud and water especially on all your connections, fuses, controller and solenoid can't be good. If I'm mistaken please let me know.
Thanks
Craig

Enclosing the battery compartment has good and bad points. You could keep the mud out but it will also keep the acid that weeps out of the batteries in. It will not let the batteries cool in hot weather or recharge either. I dunno about this one?

Enclosing the battery compartment will create an explosion hazard.

If you have to build a tub around the battery compartment to keep out mud and water, the controller and fuses might be the least of your worries, the ventilated motor will also be flooded and not working in the near future.

Heat destroys batteries, you want them as cool as possible at all times!

This is a little late, but this isnt an all bad idea.

Batteries will product there maximum power arounf 77 degrees F.

If they get too hot though, you will shorten their life.

better late than never. just saw this myself.most of the gunk and mud that gets in my battery tray box gets in by the inner fender area slung in there by the rear tires.my battery trays had two piece of plate placed in the bottom on each side under two batterys.the middl is still open. i have two pieces of wall liner(a fiber board i had from a bathroom wall project)works goodflexible and cuts easy. doesnt keep it all out but is better than leaving it open. i also put a piece of this across the back up above the motor. it is fastened between the frame rails and goes up to the lip of the body under the seat. had to cut hole in it for the wires going to the back seems to work good and have had no ill effects from heat or gasses building because it is not completely enclosed.
