Default Yamaha G9 with a 18hp Briggs

As the title suggests, I have finally found a cart, a Yamaha G9, and also found a 18hp v-twin Briggs. I started taking it apart before I took any photos, but it had no motor in it, missing some other pieces but I found some replacements, miss match tires, some flat, some bald. Other than the engine block no having issues and it not being seized up, there is not much more to say about it.

While I was searching for a cart and engine, I kept an eye out for deals hear and there, I ended up finding some nice 12” rims that were on sale, paid half what everyone else was asking. I pulled the side cover off the engine, everything was intact but I ordered new rings, seals, gaskets, and I wasn’t 100% sure I trusted the connecting rods so I ordered some for 32.50 each. Also ordered a rev kit, larger cam, billet pushrods, and bigger starter. Also tracked down some 16hp heads and aluminum rockers, sent the heads out to be shaved and a valve job done. Ordered some 23hp valve covers to do away with the crank case vent on top of the block. Bought a 2 barrel setup off a member, talked with him, great guy. Also painted the shrouding to match the rims.

Some photos of the engine after being cleaned up and put back together.

Looks good. What clutch are you going to use with that tapered shaft?

Wow! That is one heck of a clean up job you did there! Looks like you could eat off that thing!

Notice the stator, that will be the flywheel side, the other side is a 1” straight shaft

It will be getting a 780 comet clutch and for the exhaust/muffler I am still looking into it. I see there are many options and there are many creations that people have done on this site. I might copy one, I may buy one, haven’t decided yet. What is everyone else’s favorite exhaust setup?
