Battery diagnosis - 2004 ezgo 36 volt series cart
Hey guys,
I bought a $3.50 specific gravity tester for my batteries and measured the voltage. The results are below. Could Doug or someone tell me if I need to replace any, or do anything else? The readings were in the 'fair' range on the tester except for cell 3 of battery #3, which read 'replace'. Thanks, Kenny Battery 1 - 6.36 V Cell 1 - 1.210 Cell 2 - 1.225 Cell 3 - 1.230 Battery 2 - 6.41 V Cell 1 - 1.257 Cell 1 - 1.226 Cell 3 - 1.247 Battery 3 - 6.32 V Cell 1 - 1.250 Cell 2 - 1.250 Cell 3 - 1.100 Battery 4 - 6.38 V Cell 1 - 1.225 Cell 2 - 1.245 Cell 3 - 1.227 Battery 5 - 6.40 V Cell 1 - 1.250 Cell 2 - 1.250 Cell 3 - 1.250 Battery 6 - 6.40 V Cell 1 - 1.250 Cell 2 - 1.248 Cell 3 - 1.248 |

Re: Battery diagnosis - 2004 ezgo 36 volt series cart
Battery 3 is toast, and the spread on the others indicate they need equalized. If these are Trojan batteries they need Equalized when the SPG falls below 1.250 or ranging more than .030 points. Throwing out battery 3 your range spread from the highest 1.257 to the lowest 1.21 = .047
Without knowing the temperature of the cells and assuming they are between 70 and 80 degrees all of them are undercharged. !00% SOC would be 1.277 at 75 degrees. FWIW battery 1, 2, and 4 are not in real good shape, you will know more if you equalize them, battery 3 is toast (cell 3 is just about water only), batter 5 and 6 look OK for now other than slightly under charged. |

Are they the original batteries? All your readings are nice, but there is only one true way to test batteries and that's with a discharge machine. If you're having charging / run time issues, then it will be time to replace the entire set...

Re: Battery diagnosis - 2004 ezgo 36 volt series cart
This test was done after a full charge. I am using a new delta-q charger vs. the Powerwise charger I have. I'm not sure how old the batts are, just bought the cart 6 months ago. The brand is Golf Pro 220. The outside temp during the test was around 50 degrees F. How do you 'equalize' batteries?

Should I replace # 3, or replace the entire set? Thanks. |

What do you use the cart for? How much do you use it at a time? Do you go5 miles or 20 miles?

Hard to tell how many hours the batteries had to settle down to some real numbers then? My point was you will get falsely high voltage and SG #s within 12 hours or of charging.... the settled readings are more true
