Question New project cart - 87 Marathon

Hey all, just picked up this old Marathon for cheap, it had the 2pg at one time but it's long gone. Plans are 13hp predator, TAV and reverse gearbox. The TAV reverse kits are all for TAV 30 series, I would prefer a 40 but the 30 is available for a 1" motor shaft. My question is how long before the 13hp motor kills the TAV 30 setup, or is there a reverse gearbox for the TAV 40?

If it comes down to it, I can live without reverse.

It probably doesn't matter, but I don't believe that is an 87. Is there a tag in the passenger footwell?

Yeah it's way older than that, here's an example of one a friend had a while back with the tag. Although I don't remember what year I decided it was, maybe 65 or 74?? But I see some similar features between the two, the front bumper and shock cover plate are definitely not an 87. The seat back brackets are another sign for me along with no gas tank under the drivers side seat

I haven't found a tag yet, the seller was guessing at 1987. To be fair, he had about a dozen carts.
This one will be getting heavily modified, so most of the missing stuff would be tossed anyway.
Looking at the suspension, I have also decided to airbag it, everyone else does a lift, I'm gonna lay frame 😁

Well, got an actual 87 now.
There's a custom cart shop down the street that had this industrial gas cart for sale for $1500. On a whim, I stopped in and asked if he would be interested in my 2000 TXT electric. I figured I would give him the cart and a few hundred in trade, but he came right out and offered an even swap. He builds custom carts and his fiberglass molds are all for the TXT. Since my batteries had maybe another year left in them, I was facing $600-800 for new batteries. Now I've got a decent running gas cart that suits my needs and he's got a functional electric cart that suits his. Win-Win. He even put my name in his database to get parts at cost. 😁

Now you can take your time to build something really cool. Plus you got a bed for carrying stuff.

Well ffs, I don't understand it but guess I'm wrong about that front bumper being the old style. Unless they still used it on the industrial/workhorse models, or your new 87 has been modified with it. Hmmmm......... Anyway, nice trade.

Yeah, the pink cart has a transverse spring and controls arms, I can convert it to air bags fairly easy.

A little finagling in the rear will give me room for the 13hp Predator, since I don't need to put a bed on it now.

Considering I had only $300 tied up in the TXT, it was a very nice trade
