Default Should I disconnect the batteries between chargings

Hi all;
I live in Ontario Canada where the winters can get bone chilling cold for weeks at a time. Here is my question about storing my cart for the winter.
I have a 1996 48 volt Club Car. I will not be using my cart form now till the end of May. I am storing my cart in my unheated garage where the temp will be around -20 deg. F. for the most of the time. I plan on checking the water level and voltage drop every week or two. Should I disconnect the main Pos. & Neg. batttery cables from my cart or leave them connected? What would be the differance?
Thanks for your input
Andy
