Default Forward reverse controller smoking

Hello forum. I am new to this place and looking forward to being apart if the community. I have an ezgo electric cart and have some issue. The reverse and forward controller is smoking snd has melted wires. Does this typically mean this controller or connections are bad. The connections are rusted, so I know that doesnt help. I have a pic and video I will post. Any guidance on where to start I am all ears. I was going to buy a new controller , but don’t want to throw parts at it.

Usually means that the contacts in the fnr switch have gone bad. This can be caused by age plus if the cables or connections are dirty it will cause excess heat. As for year your cart has the ST cowl but that can be put on any txt. Look for a plate in the passenger side glove box. If not there look on the cross bar above the batteries for a sticker with a date code. Also count how many bolts hold the steering column to floor. 3 pre 2001, 4 2001 up.

So best bet is to replace the FNR switch and cables? Thanks. My sticker has been wiped clean no ink left :( I’ll look at the bolts. Thanks for your help

If the sticker was there probably 2003 or newer because that is around when they started doing that. May also be a serial number under the charger port.

Best deal would be to replace the fnr with a reversing contactor.

Probably would be the best thing, but being this is the first time to dive in I i
Will probably replace the switch to ensure it runs again :)

Thanks for the note on the sticker. I do have like a bar code/ serial number under the charger....not sure what that is. Thanks for your help. I am going to order a new cable and switch, recommend a place? One that supports the forum? I’ll look around too

There are youtube videos on how to replace switch. Recommend you check them out. Not difficult but there are a couple of things that aren't exactly obvious.

If I provide the serial could you tell me
The year? Also is my cart a DCS? Or PDS? I think. I am just going to replace the FNR switch. Easiest.

Rotary switch with the rod going to the shifter is a series cart. Not PDS. Year doesn’t really matter as much as what suspension it has. Did you count bolts?
